Fulham Library Creative Writing Group: Third Person Mastery

I’m looking forward to attending the Fulham Library Creative Writing Group on Tuesday, July 2nd at 6:30 PM, where we’ll be exploring the craft of third person narrative — both limited and omniscient perspectives in past tense.

Following on from May’s session, this month’s focus offers perfect timing for my current project revisions. The group asks participants to bring a 500-word piece written in third person past tense, plus we’ll work through exercises designed to strengthen this fundamental narrative technique.

As someone who frequently navigates between different narrative voices across languages, I’m particularly interested in how third person perspective can create intimacy while maintaining distance — essential for exploring complex cultural and psychological terrain.

The workshop will combine practical exercises with community feedback, offering writers the chance to experiment with narrative distance and point of view control. Whether you’re working with limited third person’s focused intimacy or omniscient’s broader scope, the session promises valuable insights into wielding these essential storytelling tools.

The Fulham Library Creative Writing Group continues to provide vital support for London’s writing community, creating structured environments where craft development meets creative exploration.
